Privacy Policy

Academex & Co. ("Academex", "we", "us") is a 1-on-1 online tutoring service founded and operated by Jyoti Malik, IIT Bombay. We take the privacy of students and parents seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly to us when you contact us via WhatsApp, email, or our enquiry form. This may include:

• Parent or guardian name and contact number
• Student name, class, and exam details
• Subject areas and learning goals
• WhatsApp messages and session-related communications

We do not collect payment card details directly — payments are processed through standard bank transfer or UPI, and we do not store payment credentials.

2. How we use your information

We use the information collected solely to:

• Match your child with a suitable tutor
• Schedule, conduct, and follow up on sessions
• Share session notes and progress updates with parents
• Respond to your enquiries
• Send occasional updates about Academex (you can opt out at any time)

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Tutor–parent confidentiality

Student and parent contact details are never shared directly with tutors beyond what is needed to conduct sessions. Tutors communicate with students through Academex-managed channels.

4. Session recordings

Sessions on MS Teams may be recorded on request. Recordings are stored securely and accessible only to the student, parent, and relevant Academex staff. Recordings are not shared externally.

5. Data retention

We retain your information for as long as your child is enrolled with us, and for up to 12 months thereafter for legitimate business purposes (e.g. re-enrolment enquiries). You may request deletion at any time.

6. Children's privacy

Our services are directed at students under 18, who enrol with the consent of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect information from minors without parental consent. All communications regarding a minor's enrolment are conducted with their parent or guardian.

7. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Opt out of non-essential communications

8. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. Communications are conducted over encrypted channels (WhatsApp, MS Teams, email).

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The updated date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
